The Lighthouse
By the time we were hired to design titles for Robert Eggers’s enigmatic legend of two lighthouse keepers in the 1890s, the director had already found a title treatment he loved. It came from a book, also called The Lighthouse, published in 1865. Using Google Books, we tracked down dozens of books released by the same publisher in the same decade, all of which used the same font on the title page. We constructed a full alphabet with multiple alternate characters and used it to create the rest of the titles.
