Site-Specific Art at The New School
Website companion to I Stand in My Place with My Own Day Here: Site-Specific Art at The New School, a book that brings together more than 50 original essays by renowned writers considering thirteen monumental works of art commissioned by the school between 1930 and today. For the website, selected authors read their essays on video in the presence of their subject.
Environmental photographs of each work create a persistent background for the pages. The background image is set as a user enters and exits the gallery for each work.
The menu and ‘pages’ within each work of art all exist as layers sitting atop these background images. Clicking anywhere outside the content box closes the layer, returning the user to that specific work’s menu.
