One-Way Ticket: Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series
CHIPS created a website to accompany MoMA’s exhibition One-Way Ticket: Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series and Other Works. Each of the sixty panels comprising the Migration Series is presented alongside important texts, images, videos, & audio that lend historical and cultural context to the scenes depicted in the series.
Panel content — a description, social history, and cultural context — stacks vertically below the large image of each panel in the series.
A set of animated infographics created from Census records help to show how the massive demographic shifts of The Great Migration affected both the South and the North.
The Perspectives section of the site features a suite of original poetry commissioned for the exhibition alongside video interviews with contemporary scholars, educators, artists, and cultural figures.
The Harlem Walking Tour, narrated by Terrence McKnight, explores some of the landmarks of the neighborhood where Jacob Lawrence grew up.
