Her Smell
Her Smell is a harrowing drama about a rock star named Becky Something (Elisabeth Moss), set in the alternative rock scene of the late 1990s. In addition to creating the main title sequence, we worked with production designer Fletcher Chancey and costume designer Amanda Ford to provide graphics for apparel, set decoration, and props.
This is our fourth collaboration with director Alex Ross Perry, after Listen Up Philip, Queen of Earth, and Golden Exits.
This neon sign doubles as a piece of production design and the opening title for the film.
The main on end title sequence features period-specific CD covers for all the film’s fictional musical artists. For the credits, we used a slightly modified version of the font Elektrix, designed in 1989 by Zuzana Licko for Emigre. (Shout-out to former CHIPS intern Kate Doyle, who helped develop the custom alphabet and typeset the credits.) For a deep dive on those album covers, check out this piece in Vulture.
